FUEL: AN ANTHOLOGY OF PRIZE-WINNING FLASH FICTION

So happy to have two stories in Fuel: An Anthology of Prize-Winning Flash Fictions Raising Funds to Fight Fuel Poverty.’

The book is made up of 75 short short stories that have won first prize in flash fiction contests around the world, and you can buy it here.

This innovative new anthology is the brainchild of Editor Tania Hershman, who is one the best and kindest writers out there. I was delighted to be asked to be part of this, and even happier to be asked twice!

The first story I have included ‘Granny Smith, Queene’ - which was the winner of the inaugural Quiet Man Dave prize at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2020.

The second story I have included is ‘Scrolling Facebook Memes While Waiting for the Paeditrician’ which won The Forge Literary Magazine Flash Fiction Prize in 2020.

Many thanks to the ‘Quiet Man Dave’ team, and all at ‘The Forge’, for being so wonderful, and supporting the book, and my writing.

Everyone has volunteered their work and time, and all profits go to four charities.

“Between the covers of this unique, diverse and surprising anthology are 75 short short stories or flash fictions that have won first prize in flash fiction contests around the world. Stories in all shapes, genres and voices; stories encapsulated in one paragraph or unfolding over several pages; stories told in one breathless sentence or in numbered sections; stories as letter, as play, as internet search results; stories that will leave you wondering how whole worlds can be created in such small spaces. Dip in and discover that there is no “formula” for a winning story, there are at least 75 different ways to seize a competition judge’s attention and never let it go.

Competitions whose winners are showcased include: the Bath Flash Fiction Award, the Bridport and Fish Publishing Prizes, SmokeLong Quarterly, Mslexia, The Forge, Retreat West, Reflex Fiction, Flash 500, FlashFrog and many more, by authors such as Kit de Waal, Rosie Garland, Sarah Hilary, Elisabeth Ingram Wallace, Jude Brewer and David Swann.

All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to charities combatting fuel poverty in the UK. No-one should have to choose between heating their home and heating their food”
