'OPSNIZING DAD' THE OPERA - NOMINATED FOR IVOR NOVELLO COMPOSER AWARD

In 2022, composer John Wallace adapted my story ‘Opsnizing Dad’ into a comic opera. Now that opera has mind-blowingly been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award!

The story has been on quite the journey, it originally won the ‘Writing the Future’ prize in 2017, a sci-fi competition with a £10,000 prize.

‘Opsnizing Dad’ is a opera in one act for Solo tenor voice, chorus, brass ensemble (period instruments) and percussion, with libretto by Elisabeth Ingram Wallace.

You can watch a performance of it it here, filmed at the Laidlaw Music Centre, University of St Andrews.

So good to finally see an opera where a man stamps about shouting f**k and singing about losing his trousers on the bus! Glad I could help add some gravitas to the genre.

Absolutely delighted for John Wallace and awed by the way he took my story and created something entirely unique out of it.
